Some sort of foot massage or therapy can be traced back to 2330 B.C. in ancient Egypt as the wall paintings on the physician's tomb show. However reflexology as we know it today is attributed to the work of Eunice Ingham.
Eunice mapped out reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to all of the organs, glands and parts of the body. Her original work is taught exclusively by the school that she founded, The International Institute of Reflexology. Eunice believed that by applying pressure to the reflex points on the hands and/or feet, the blood circulation and nerve supply to the corresponding parts of the body was improved and that this along with a deep sense of relaxation may assist any out of balanced organs. When the body reaches homeostasis, or balance, then all its systems function at their optimum level and we are disease free.
It is now thought that 75/80% of our health problems can be linked to nervous stress and tension. Reflexology can bring deep relaxation which may help clear energy blockages. It is totally safe for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly, for pregnant women and those undergoing chemotherapy.
